A St. Pete Day would not be complete without giving back to the community that inspired this box. Sunnyday Mercantile has partnered with Edible Peace patch, an amazing organization working to eliminate poverty as a condition of educational success by building gardens, feeding families, and expanding minds. 10% of each St. Pete Day box sold will be donated to Edible Peace Patch. Here is a little more about what they are doing.

The families residing in the South side of St. Pete are faced with the every-day challenge of living in a food desert, where finding and being able to afford good, fresh food can be a hardship. This issue factors into the education and health of the children of our community. As a result, this neighborhood’s five public schools have the worst reading and math test scores in the county as well as one of Florida’s highest drop out rates.

To accomplish this mission Edible Peace Patch provides education through hands-on learning, in their organic garden beds. These sustainable gardens are built through community co-creation and utilization of local resources. They currently operate six schoolyard gardens in the neighborhoods of South St. Petersburg with the goal to create economic and self development opportunity for youth, young adults, and the unemployed of our community.

A plan is underway to establish an urban science and wellness classroom in the form of a replicable urban farm. The donation from this box will help build gardens, feed bodies, expand minds, and grow this community.
