Yesterday the St. Pete Day Gift Box went live in the SHOP and I could not be more proud of this gift. I wanted to take some time to share with y'all why this gift box is so special to me. I've wanted to do a St. Petersburg themed box since I started Sunnyday. I've even done multiple custom orders for St. Pete Day boxes as welcome gifts and housewarmings so I knew it was a natural part of the line. But somehow it has taken me eons to bring this idea to life and I think it's because I felt such a (self imposed) obligation to get it right.
See, I love this city. Living here has enriched my life in so many positive ways, not just for the endless sunshine (BTW St. Pete holds a Guinness World Record for most consecutive days of sunshine - 768 to be exact), but for the undeniable spirit of community and the positively electric creative energy that is evident in all the amazing things being done and being made here in the city of St. Petersburg. So to curate a gift that captured that spirit inside a 10" x 8" box seemed like a monster task, because ultimately I wanted to do my city proud.
The good news is St. Petersburg is a wellspring of creators and makers. For this box I turned to my tried and true favorites. I was a fan girl of these products before Sunnyday existed, discovering them (just like many of you) at Saturday Morning Market or aimlessly wandering the aisles of Locale. I gave these items as gifts for visiting friends or sent them home to tease family members up North with the tastes and smells of sunshine. Picked not only for the exceptional quality of their creations, but also for these maker's commitment to keeping our community local and thriving.
Meet the makers in this box:

ST. PETE MAP TOTE
I fell in love with this tote the first time I saw someone carrying it at Saturday Morning market. To me, it so sweetly captures all of the hidden gems and special nuances of St. Petersburg. Also, I dream of one day using it to confuse tourists pointing at it and saying "Currently you're here at the giant pelican, to get to the beach you need to go West past the taco, alligator and palm tree."
Miss Johnny Squirrel is a creative studio specializing in hand-crafted goods, and whimsical designs influenced by living here in the Sunshine State.

JABON DE LECHON SOAP
Made from the up-cycled fat renderings from Bodega's kitchen, this bar is as natural and moisturizing as it can get. It smells fresh and savory all at the same time likecilantro, citrus, and cocoa with the faintest hint of Cuban sandwich. This bar of soap is so St. Pete I can barely stand it - a combo of two great local favorites, great for your body, and great for the environment. #winning

CARMEL APPLE + SEA SALT
Just the name of this jam makes my mouth water. It is gooey, warm, sweet and decadent. It tastes like a Fall carnival, fresh air, and dessert after Thanksgiving dinner. When I'm not eating it directly out of the container with a spoon I love a dollop on my cheese board, or spread on top of cinnamon toast. Also perfectly delicious swirled into a whiskey drink.
Urban Canning Co. are the creators of one of a kind, hand-crafted, and naturally preserved foods. Specializing in unique flavor compositions and featuring only the freshest, seasonal produce.

ORANGE + DARK CHOCOLATE BAR
What is more Florida than oranges? This bar of chocolate harmonizes the flavors of dark chocolate and citrus perfectly. A favorite of my Mom's because it is milk free (dairy can be so cruel) She is a bona fide chocoholic, so I knew when this chocolate ereceived her enthusiastic seal of approval that it was one of the best bars out there.
Pinellas Chocolate is a family-owned chocolate maker producing single origin, Florida inspired and seasonal varieties of bean to bar chocolate.

7TH AVENUE APOTHECARY
SEA SALT + SANDALWOOD SOY CANDLE
This is one of my favorite candles of all time. It smells like the beach, but only as a Floridian can interpret it. Just the right amount of salt water and sea breeze with the slightest undercurrent of that scent that only happens when the sun heats up your freshly washed beach blanket. Oh it's so good.
Seventh Avenue produces hand poured, all natural soy candles featuring scents inspired by Tampa Bay’s unique cultural and culinary legacies.

GOOD THINGS + DOING GOOD
Remember that sense of community and innovation that inspired this Gift Box? Well a celebration of all things St. Pete would not be complete without giving something back to the community that inspired it. That is why 10% of every St. Pete Day Gift Box sold will be donated to The Edible Peace Patch.
Edible Peace Patch is an amazing organization working to eliminate poverty as a condition of educational success by building gardens, feeding families, and expanding minds. Another blog post to come to introduce you to all the great things they are doing in the South side of St. Petersburg but in the meantime you can learn more HERE
