A SunnyDay: Quote of the Week

SunnyDay Mercantile

"So don't treat me like a puppet on a string,
'Cause I know I have to do my thing.
Don't talk to me as if you think I'm dumb;
I wanna know when you're gonna come - soon.
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,
'Cause if summer is here,
I'm still waiting there;
Winter is here,
And I'm still waiting there."

BOB MARLEY

MONTEGO BAY - JAMAICA

Bob Marley's album Legend is one of my all time favorites and it always in my iTunes rotation.  The lyrics of each song are so ingrained in my brain that I don't really pay attention to them anymore.  A few days ago I was cleaning house and singing "Waiting in Vain" out loud to myself and realized that, while these lines were most likely written for the love of another, they take on new meaning when you say them to yourself.

Have you ever paid attention to the unkind things you are capable of saying to yourself?  Awful, disparaging thoughts we would never even think of saying to our loved one's, and yet we say them to ourselves.  How is this okay?  It's something I even catch myself doing and it takes a very conscious effort to correct.  Thinking of something nice to to say to yourself can sometimes be challenging, given the circumstance.

I guess this hits me because it's the beginning of February and I can't help but notice that the upsurge centered around New Year's resolutions is winding down. The gym isn't as busy, and social media has chilled out on all the New Year - New You crap.  This makes me wonder how many people are out there beating themselves up about falling through or not being where they want to be.  This I say to you, don't wait in vain for your love.

LOVE yourself NOW, in whatever form YOU are in, YOU are LOVE.
