The Objective: Extend my Birthday celebration one more weekend with a heavy dose of Miami lux and sun.
The Vibe: It's so very South Beach, yet doesn't lean too heavily on the Art Deco kitsch that can be a bit predictable for this area. With Philippe Starck designed interiors The SLS is modern and humorous. The rooms are small, with quirky touches like mirrored ceilings and pink mini-bars. The common spaces are detail oriented, and full of energy. At check in, the front desk is backdropped with a collage of framed 1950's Americana vacation photos. A few steps away the elegant dining room of The Bazaar is presided over by the giant coral tentacles of an overwhelming chandelier.
Their are two beautiful pools, one exclusively for hotel guests which is quiet with lots of book readers sipping white wine. The other, Hyde Beach, seems to be the "it" gathering spot for all Miami Bachelorette/Stag destination weekends. Expect pitchers of Sangria being guzzled by pool partiers who have paid admission to enjoy the sunny day beds and bikini clad waitresses. All this is wrapped up with an over saturated Endless Summer vibe that, despite the revelers, is so fun you find yourself there for the entire day sipping Mimosas, sun bathing and people watching.
The Stay: The perfect balance of being seen and unseen. Cavorting just enough to feel like we were in Miami, while having space to relax and truly get away.
Champagne at check in. Champagne in the room. Champagne poolside.
