A popular excursion from Montezuma is the boat trip to Tortuga Island. Located off the Southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula this is one of the prime places to scuba dive or snorkel but also makes for a nice change of scenery and a chance to get off the mainland. Be prepared - the ride one way takes just over an hour and you are on one very fast boat in some big water. Once you are there the small beach has a deserted island feel if you happen to be shipwrecked with a gift shop and a pet boar named Filomeana. Nonetheless it's fairly easy to close your eyes and take a soak in the sun.
The Objective: Take some No-Drama Dramamine and get to a beach.
The Vibe: A bit touristy as you have to pay to rent beach chairs and use the toilet but the water is blue and the sand is soft.
The Day: A fun mix of lazy sun bathing, good food, and cold beers. The boat ride can be intense but wort it because you'll have the chance to glimpse a whale or some dolphins
